Here’s something you can try at home: Pull away a rug or a couch that has sat atop your hardwood floor for a while. You might notice a dark “shadow” that stays behind — that is the original color of your wood floor, before the sunlight bleached it!

And it may surprise you to learn: More damage is done to your interior of your home in the Winter Months versus the Summer! The sun is lower in the sky in wintertime, causing more light to enter your home.

The cause of why your floors and furnishing fade can scientifically be broken down into 4 factors:

Ultra-Violet light: 40% of fading problems.

Everyone knows this type of light because of sunburn. It’s an intense wavelength of light that breaks chemical bonds, damaging living tissue like your skin but also, over time, materials like wood and cloth. Our window films block 99% of the sun’s ultraviolet light. No matter how much you bask in a warm sunbeam that passes through our filters, you will never get burned! And neither will your furniture or floors.

Solar Heat: 25% of fading problems.

Sunlight enters through a glass window, turns to heat, but then the heat becomes trapped and builds up in the air close to the windows. Certain materials break down over time when exposed to a constant source of heat such as this. We can install window films that will block up to 80% of the sun’s rays during summer months. You’ll not only save a boatload on energy bills and give your A/C a break, but your furnishings will last longer, too!

Intense Visible Light: 25% of fading problems.

Even sunlight with the ultraviolet spectrum filtered out can, over time, bleach surfaces. But in today’s modern homes, we make our windows as big as possible, to let in as much light as possible! So won’t a window film to reduce the intensity of visible light also make my home darker and gloomier inside? Not at all. We make films that filter sunlight just enough to significantly reduce fading, but do almost nothing to lower the total light level in your home.

Other Misc. Factors: 10% of fading problems.

Artificial light sources, gases, pollutants, and air quality contribute the final, small 10%. This is the one area where window films can’t help you, but it’s also only a small fraction of the cause of fading.
